Mud kitchen

Making your own mud kitchen is a great way of being creative and practicing role-play, but in the outdoors! All you need is a space with plenty of soil or earth, access to a water tap or water tray, and as many different pots, pans, bowls, plates and kitchen tools as possible!

Activity

Set up your mud kitchen in a corner of your outdoor space. Add fixtures such as wooden pallets that pots and pans can be hung off. Allow children to explore the kitchen by making mud and imagining their own role-play scenarios. Cleaning and tidying up at the end is an important part of the process too!

Reflection

Q. What did you make in your mud kitchen?

Q. What scenarios did you role-play?

Q. How easy was it to play altogether? Did everyone have an equal turn at using everything?
