Writing a haiku might sound tricky but it is actually very easy! A haiku is a type of Japanese poem. It follows a syllable pattern of five – seven – five and it doesn’t have to rhyme. It is often written to express a feeling or emotion. It is a good activity to do if it is a rainy day!
Activity
Think of something to do with nature or choose something close to you. If it was a rainy day, I might use the rain to inspire me! Write your haiku as follows using the 5 – 7 - 5 structure:
So softly it falls (5)
Pitter-patter, droplets land (7)
On the windowpane (5)
Bright wellington boots (5)
Jumping and splashing about (7)
In all the puddles (5)
