Sensory walk

We can often go for a walk in nature or woodland but not really notice our surroundings. We sometimes need to stop and focus on our senses to realise what is happening right under our feet. The five senses are SEEING, HEARING, TOUCHING, SMELLING and TASTING. We can’t do all of these in a forest so we are going to focus on just three: SEE, HEAR and FEEL.

Activity

Go for a walk in your outdoor space. Try not to talk to anyone so that you are not distracted. Find a nice spot to sit down in, and then note down what you can see, hear and feel (this can mean what you physically feel in your body, but also what you emotionally feel).

Reflection

Q. Which sense was the easiest one to write about?

Q. How did it make you feel to focus on your senses? Do you think you noticed more about your outdoor space?

Q. Compare your notes with someone else. Did you SEE, HEAR and FEEL the same things?
