Rain is a very important part of nature. Although we might not always like the rain, it helps the plants to grow which in turn provides food for animals. Some parts of the world are having more rain than before, and some places are having less. This is due to climate change. We can keep track of how much rain there is by collecting it and drawing a graph.
Activity
You will need a container (like a jam jar) and a tape measure or ruler. Place the container outside where it will easily catch the rain. Make sure it is somewhere safe where it will not be knocked over. Each day (or week) measure the amount of rain inside the container. You could then draw a graph to show how the rain has increased or decreased over time.
Reflection
Q. How easy was it to carry out this experiment?
Q. Do you think the measuring was accurate? Why/why not?
Q. What key things should you remember when drawing a graph?
